My internship experience

As a part of B.Ed curriculum we had a school internship program which gave me an opportunity to work as a mathematics training teacher. During this internship , I was assigned to St. Mary ‘s CGHSS, Ernakulam .The internship was during our third semester from 19 October 2023 to 18 February 2023.This internship was provided to trainee students to make them experience actual classroom teaching, to manage students and to develop their professional skills.


Mrs Joycee P J , Mathematics teacher of the school was my guide in the school. I was assigned to teach the class VIII D and VIII A . I developed and designed my lesson to be student centered . I included various activities to ensure active participation of the students.I used technology to make my class interactive and engaging for the students.


During my internship,I got the opportunity for teaching 50 lesson to VIII A and VIII D students.Using Constructivist teaching, I was able to teach the topics Money Math, Construction of quadrilaterals , Ratio,Area of quadrilaterals .I have utilized powerpoint presentation for making the class engaging and ensure students participation in the class. I was able to gain more knowledge about the school environment and student behaviour in the class. It also helped me to develop my teaching competence,communication skills and to manage classroom.


Value Education Class on Respect and Kindness


I got the opportunity to take value education class on the topic Respect and Kindness for students and upload the video of the class in YouTube. Anthropological method was adopted for taking the class. I have used powerpoint presentation and videos for taking the class.Value education is very important for any student to lead a meaningful life. I was grateful that I got this chance for taking a class on values.

Case Study Based on Learning Problems of School Pupils


As a part of my psychology practical work during my internship , I have conducted a case study by observing the learning problem of a student from my class VIII A .After identifying the student , I observed her and used questionaire , interview to know about her.She was an introvert and didn’t talk with her classmates. She was always distracted and wanted to go the toilet often.

Conducting the case study on the students learning gave me an insight about the problems faced by students.Not all children are same they all different needs , some of need extra attention from their teachers.Through this activity , I realized that teacher can help their students by understanding their problems and finding a way to solve it.


Action Research


As a part of the practical work for EDU 203 , an action research was conducted on the problem “ Difficulty of students in doing problems involving square roots of numbers”. Pre test and Post test was conducted to observe their difficulty. Various strategies were adopted to overcome the problem faced by the students.It helped me to know about the difficulties faced by the students.


Lesson Plan and Classes Based on Language Across Curriculum


Two lessons were taken on the topics ‘product of differences and sum of differences’ . The pecularity of this lessons were that they have more importance in speaking,listening,writing and reading skills . I had doubts regarding how to teach the concept giving more attention to the language .It was diiferent from the usual lesson plans so it was a new experience for me.


Unit Plan


A unit plan was prepared for the unit ‘Ratio’. The unit plan was prepared to be completed within 10 periods.It was my first experience of preparing an unit plan. The unit plan was prepared in a systematic order. It gave me an understanding about the unit more effectively.


Club activities on National Mathematics Day


As a part of the practical work, we had to organize two activities in the school. A geometrical pattern drawing competition and quiz competition on National Mathematics Day was conducted for students of standard VII and VIII. I was able to plan and properly coordinate both the competition along with other teachers. I was able to learn how to manage and organize which helped me to improve my skills.


Self Assessment Tool


As part of the B.Ed curriculum , a self evaluation tool was prepared on the chapter ‘Money Math’ for the students of class VIII D . The tool contained 10 objective type questions. This self assessment helped me to evaluate whether the students were able to grasp the concept . It also helped students to understand their strength and weakness and the area which they should improve.


Peer Evaluation


As a part of the practical work, I conducted two peer evaluation during my internship. For which I have selected Arya since she was teaching the same subject so I could understand how my other peers manage their classes. I also had my other peer member to evaluate which was Merin Shajan . Her subject was biology but sitting in her class made me miss my biology miss from school. Her class was very engaging and vibrant. It really helped me a lot to understand other’s way of teaching.It helped me to improve my evaluation and judgement skills.


Achievement Test


As part of the B.Ed curriculum, an achievement test was conducted on the chapters ‘Construction of quadrilaterals’and ‘Ratio’ for students of class VIII A.The test was prepared following the steps systematically. Blue print was also prepared carefully.Conducting an achievement test was a great experience for me . I was able to understand the achivement of my students.


Diagnostic Test


As a part of the B.Ed curriculum, a diagnostic test was conducted for the students of class VIII A . The test was conducted to diagnose the difficulty students face in multiplying fractions. Based on the scores students obtained , they were classified into below average, average and above average. Remedial programmes were also conducted for the students.It helped me to learn how a diagnostic test is prepared.


Physical Education Class


As a part of the practical work , I had to prepare 3 lessons of aerobics . The class was taken for students of class VIII E .The classes helps the students to maintain their body and mind.


Health Education Class


Two health education classes were conducted on the topic ‘Lifestyle diseases’and ‘Childhood obesity’ for the students of class VIII E. It was necessary for the students to know about health related problems.



Yoga Class


Three yoga lessons were prepared and demonstration classes were taken for the students of class VIII E. I was afraid whether I could take the positions correctly due to nervousness but the class was effective.Yoga asanas helps students to led a healthy lifestyle.



Class on Different Art Forms and Cultural Heritage of India

As a part of the pratical work , a class on 3 different art forms was taken for the students of class VIII E . The Art forms which I selected for the class was Bhartanatyam ,Kathakali and Kathak. It was very interesting to take a class on the art forms as student are very active in class to know more.



Organize An Activity Among Students to Conscientise National Integration/ Patriotism/Universal Brotherhood

To promote national integration, patriotism,universal ,brotherhood among students two activities a poster drawing and quiz competition on Republic day was conducted.
