My internship experience

 

As a part of the B.Ed curriculum, we had an four month internship from 19 October 2023 to 18 February 2023 . The school in which I got alloted was St.Mary’s CGHSS, Ernakulam. I was there under the guidance of Mrs Joycee P J , Mathematics teacher of the school. We had to complete 50 lesson plans along with Lac lesson plans and other activities during our internship period.

 She had already discussed the lesson which had to take  and the class for teaching. The class  which I had to teach was VIII D and the chapter was  Money Math . From my optional  , I had Arya with me to the same school but she had another guide which is Mrs Suji and she got the class VIII C . I was really happy that my classmate was with me even though we were not much  communicating with each other in our class but I got the opportunity to know her .From our college there were other trainees also along with us . There was Sr. Vinny Pappachan from Physical Science optional and Anu P Thomas from the same optional as sister. Meera Joy from English optional,Dona from Social Science optional,Allan Francis and Merin Shajan both of them were from Natural Science optional. Though we all know each other but have not spoken much .

On the first day of the internship , my class was at the afternoon during 6 th period . The chapter to be taken was Money Math. The topic which I have taken the class was simple interest .Since they had studied in the previous class some of the students had an idea about it but some didn’t have a clear idea  since they have studied it during there online classes. So it took me a while to complete the chapter but I was able to complete in on time.

I had to complete 50 lesson plans and in school they have many programs so I had to manage the time and plan to complete it .Then Joycee miss gave me another class which was VIII A . I  had to take the chapter Construction of quadrilaterals for them .Now I had to take both VIII A and D. Then I had taken the chapter Ratio for VIII A and the chapter Area of quadrilaterals for both VIII A and D. Along  with teaching ,I had to complete the works assigned from college to complete during the internship.From Psychology,there  was Case study for which I had choosen a student from VIII A as my case. And I was able to complete the work successfully and submit on time. Then in  Philosophy , I had to take value education class for students and upload the video of the class in YouTube. The topic for the value education class were Respect and kindness. In Drama and Art , there was two activities we had to conduct in the school .First , I had to take a class on different art forms and cultural heritage of India .I took the class on 24/01/2023 for standard VIII students. Second one was to organize an activity among students to conscientise national integration/ patriotism/universal brotherhood for which I have conducted a quiz as a part of Republic day and a drawing completion along with it.

In our pedagogy ,we had to write unit plan of a chapter. The chapter I choose for the unit plan was Ratio. We had to conduct club activities of our choice . I had selected Geometrical pattern drawing and Mathematics day quiz for the club activities. We also had to prepare self assessment for assessing ourselves. We  had to evaluate our peer members also . For which I have selected Arya since she was teaching the same subject so I could understand how my other peers manage their classes. I also had my other peer member to evaluate which was Merin Shajan . Her subject was biology but sitting in her class made me miss my biology miss from school. Her class was very engaging and vibrant. It really helped me a lot to understand other’s way of teaching.We also had to take Achievement test and diagnostic test.

My Guide Mrs Joycee was very nice, she used to sit in my class and help me in improving my class .I have to take class whenever we get a free period since there was always some programs we don’t know if we could get our period. When we didn’t have our class we had to go for substitution period in LP session ,it was really amazing to mingle with childrens and to teach them using activities . The headmistress of the school was also nice to us .

I was able to communicate and become close with my friends from college we become like a family there. I was happy to complete my internship successfully and return to college.
